Good morning, and welcome to The Briefing.

Cardinal George Pell has landed in Sydney to answer charges of historical child sex offences.

Pell arrived at Sydney Airport shortly before 6am this morning before being escorted from the airport by state and federal police, as well as private contractors. Pell will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on July 26 for a filing hearing.
