 Matthew Groom has sat on energy security report for more than a month
 No update on gas contract crisis
 Major employers deserve greater transparency from Government

Shadow Energy Minister Scott Bacon has called on the Government to finally release the Energy Security Taskforce report.

“Matthew Groom has been sitting on the final report for more than a month,” Mr Bacon said.

“The Government’s track record of transparency when it comes to energy security is appalling.

“Does the report make uncomfortable reading for the Minister when it comes to gas contracts in Tasmania?

“The interim report said the gas contracts should have been agreed to by March and finalised by June.

“We are now at the end of July and there is still no certainty for Tasmania’s biggest employers like Bell Bay Aluminium and TEMCO.

“Is the Government deliberately sitting on the report to avoid embarrassment for the Minister over the gas contract crisis?

“From the lead up to the energy crisis, right through until now, secrecy has been the hallmark of the Liberal Government’s approach to energy.

“There is no greater example than the Treasurer’s refusal to hand over the letter relating to the sale of the Tamar Valley Power Station.

“Tasmanians deserve better than a government that’s willing to play politics with energy security.”
