THE TASMANIAN THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS
‘WHAT RHYMES WITH CARS AND GIRLS’
Romantics, Rockers and Rogers fans, rejoice! The Tasmanian Theatre Company’s latest production, What Rhymes With Cars and Girls, opens this Friday as part of the Festival of Voices.
An unabashedly romantic, urban Australian love story What Rhymes With Cars and Girls is written by award-winning playwright Aidan Fennessy, woven around Tim Rogers (You Am I) iconic solo album of the same name.
What Rhymes With Cars and Girls brings together the passions and talents of a fabulous Tasmanian team including Melissa King as Director, Craig Irons as Musical Director and the beguiling coupling of Jesse Dugan and Danni Gilsenan as the star-crossed and class-divided lovers.
Not your traditional musical, What Rhymes With Cars and Girls is an intimate rock and roll reflection on love in all its many guises, an antithesis to the big Broadway spectacular. It is a homage to the album that inspired it and, whilst Rogers has rearranged the music for the theatre, it retains the same atmosphere and elements that have made the album so loved for nearly twenty years.
Tasmanian Theatre Company Artistic Director, Charles Parkinson, is proud to bring this modern and heartfelt production of theatre and music to Tasmanian audiences and says:
“Aidan has turned Tim’s first solo album into a tender, gutsy, moving, funny, love story. It is one of those shows that gets under your skin. Presented as part of the Festival of Voices, it will be a night of whimsy, young love and great music from a live band.”
What Rhymes With Cars and Girls opens 8:15pm, Friday 30 June at the Peacock Theatre, Salamanca Arts Centre, and runs to 15 July. Tickets $15-$49.
