• Businesses still facing a spike in energy costs
• Some customers in line for enormous increases
• Government offering relief but can’t provide detail
Energy Minister Matthew Groom has provided disturbingly little detail about the Government’s response to skyrocketing power bills for businesses.
“The Liberals claimed the Budget would provide real relief for businesses facing power bill increases in the order of 100 per cent,” Shadow Energy Minister Scott Bacon said.
“However the Minister was unable to answer even basic questions about his government’s so-called relief package.
“Businesses who have already signed on to new contracts are still in the dark about when relief will come and how much relief they will receive.
“Labor’s concern is that the relief package will be too little too late.
“Businesses facing 100 per cent increases in power costs cannot wait while this hapless Minister gets his act together.
“It will also be cold comfort if they end up having to pay an 80 per cent increase rather than 100 per cent.
“This problem has been brewing for months. You would think Matthew Groom could answer simple questions about his government’s own policy.”
