• Minister has no plan to move sewerage works at Macquarie Point
• Labor would get on with the work to allow development to proceed
Minister Matthew Groom’s appearance in Budget Estimates has confirmed the Government has no plan to move the sewerage works at Macquarie Point.
“More than three years after coming to government, the Liberals still don’t how they’ll move the sewerage works at Macquarie Point,” Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said.
“It’s critical to the development going ahead but the Government has no plan to remove the treatment plant.
“Labor has committed to doing the work as soon as possible by partnering with superannuation funds to pay for the project.
“The Liberals seem like they’re just hoping the treatment plant will move itself.
“Matthew Groom’s mishandling of this critical transformative project is a disgrace.
“Under his watch, the Macquarie Point development has virtually stood still.
“He scrapped the original master plan, adopted a new idea, but still has no plan to complete the remedial work that needs to be done.
“The spin put forward by Minister Groom during the Budget Estimates hearing was embarrassing.”
