A local expo to help Tasmanians live well with diabetes

Northern Tasmanians are encouraged to attend Diabetes Tasmania’s Living Well with Diabetes Expo this Sunday to broaden their understanding of Australia’s fastest growing chronic disease.

The expo is designed to educate, engage and assist Tasmanians living with diabetes through expert knowledge and advice to help them live happy, healthy lives. Attendees can also hear from diabetes educators, dietitians, exercise physiologists and optometrists to help with their day-to-day diabetes management.

Diabetes Tasmania CEO, Caroline Wells, said the forums provided a great opportunity to bring health professionals to the local community to help them live well with their diabetes.

Diabetes is Australia’s fastest growing chronic disease, with around 280 people across the nation developing the condition every day; that’s one person every five minutes.

In Tasmania alone, there are nearly 27,000 people living with diabetes and up to 15,000 living with the disease but undiagnosed with many people with type 2 diabetes living with the condition for up to seven years before it is diagnosed.
