The mystery and anticipation of Dark Mofo is set to hit visitors before they even touch down at
Hobart Airport this winter, with a giant glowing red ‘once upon a dream’ slogan replacing the iconic
Welcome to Hobart sign.
Hobart Airport has joined forces with Dark Mofo for the second year in a row, welcoming thousands
of visitors to the state with another high-visibility site activation. As well as the written welcome, a
red Airport Control tower and other festival touches generate a feeling of anticipation and
excitement for visitors.
In 2016, Hobart Airport removed the ‘HOB’ from the sign sitting atop the main arrivals terminal to
read ‘WELCOME TO ART’, together with a number of Dark Mofo style touches throughout the airport
terminal.
In 2017, Hobart Airport will be sponsoring the Sleeping Beauty performance, which in true Mofo
fashion, will be presented by 27 giant gothic puppets with help from the Victorian Opera and the
Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
Hobart Airport General Manager Corporate Affairs Mel Percival said she was thrilled to partner with
the internationally acclaimed festival once again, with this year’s event set to be the biggest and best
yet.
“The annual influx of visitors arriving at Hobart Airport specifically for the festival continues to grow
as does the participation from Tasmanians,” said Ms Percival.
“In a massive boost to the local economy, the unique festival has effectively ended the annual winter
hibernation and created winter as a highlight of the year. For visitors, the excitement will kick off
before they even touch down, with the giant ‘once upon a dream’ neon sign welcoming them to a
fairy tale adventure.”
Dark Mofo officially commenced on June 8 and will run through to June 21. www.darkmofo.net.au
