 Hodgman Government welcomes Budget that ignores Tasmania
 Tasmania misses out across the board
 Disappointing result for Tasmanian infrastructure, education and health

Once again the Hodgman Liberal Government has failed to fight for Tasmania’s fair share in the Federal Budget.

Labor Leader Rebecca White said Tasmania is the big loser from last night’s Budget.

“Peter Gutwein’s defence of the budget is pathetic and weak,” Ms White said.
“While other states will receive billions for investments in infrastructure, Tasmania’s share is virtually non-existent.

“The long list of infrastructure priorities for the state have been ignored.

“There’s no commitment to tourism, no commitment to water and sewerage and no new commitments to transport infrastructure.

“It beggars belief that Peter Gutwein claims there is a water and sewerage crisis but he hasn’t secured one cent of federal funding for much needed upgrades.

“Other states are set to boom with spending on big ticket items like airports and rail, while Tasmania is left out in the cold.

“When it comes to education funding, an $84.4 million cut over the next two years has been confirmed.

“Funding to support Tasmanian kindergartens to deliver 15 hours a week has only been extended for one year, leaving an uncertain future.

“And there is no support to take the pressure off Tasmania’s health system which is in crisis.

“Tasmania needs a government that will stand up to Canberra and fight for our fair share.”
