Prof Robert Jensen
World Environment Day Lecture presented by Professor Robert Jensen …
Both the intimate problems of our lives and the world’s greatest ecological concerns are rooted in the same problems: the delusions of ownership and the illusion of control. In patriarchy men have claimed to own women’s bodies and, similarly, since the invention of agriculture, humans have claimed to own the earth. Professor Jensen argues these delusions have led many to believe that hierarchy and exploitation are simply the default settings of human beings. Critical feminist and ecological analyses help us see another path.
Robert Jensen is professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. Robert began his intellectual/political life nearly 30 years ago with a radical feminist critique of pornography. He is the author of The End of Patriarchy: Radical Feminism for Men, Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity, and The Heart of Whiteness: Confronting Race, Racism and White Privilege.
