Treasurer Gutwein can still provide power station letter to parliament
Expert advice exposes Treasurer’s false claims
Government looks like it has something to hide
Shadow Minister for Open Government Madeleine Ogilvie said it’s not too late for the Treasurer to provide Parliament with the letter he wrote to Matthew Groom relating to the sale of the Tamar Valley Power Station.
“The advice of former solicitor general Leigh Sealy unequivocally rejected the Treasurer’s argument that the letter is protected by ‘cabinet in confidence’,” Ms Ogilvie said.
“The Treasurer’s conduct is likely to be discussed in the Legislative Council this week but it’s not too late to simply provide the document to the parliament.
“Peter Gutwein has dug himself into a hole over this issue.
“Providing the document in full to the parliament is the obvious first step.
“Otherwise Tasmanians are right to believe the Treasurer, Minister Groom and Premier Hodgman have something to hide.
“The Treasurer’s double standards were on display on Friday when he provided “high level” advice from Treasury to the Local Government Association.
“Treasurer Gutwein is happy to produce Treasury advice when it suits him politically.”
