Senator Helen Polley is today launching a petition calling on the Turnbull Government to reverse their position and stop the cuts to Sunday penalty rates that will see thousands of Tasmanian workers be as much as $77 a week worse off.
Malcolm Turnbull and his Liberals voted to block laws that would stop the cuts to penalty rates
Malcolm Turnbull has said, “That was the considered decision of the Fair Work Commission, and we accept that decision. We support the decision of the independent umpire because it is their decision.”
We all know the Liberals, the party who introduced WorkChoices have long been campaigning for cut to penalty rates.
Senator Polley said there is only a few weeks to pass the legislation before the first cuts to penalty rates take effect at the end of March.
“I’m urging all Australians to go to www.ProtectOurPenaltyRates.org.au and sign the petition,” Senator Polley said.
“So many people have contacted my office urging Labor to do something to stop this cut to penalty rates. Labor has acted swiftly and we will not stop fighting to ensure this cut is stopped,” Senator Polley said.
Malcolm Turnbull has the power to stop these devastating pay cuts to workers, that’s why the more people who speak up and add their name, the more pressure we can put on the Government to change their mind and protect penalty rates.
