AN ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE
Hey Deloraine, there will soon be a new entrant to the diversity of your wonderful craft and cultural environment.
This extraordinary handmade textile and clothing producer has relocated from a successful enterprise in St Marys in the North East of Tasmania to the top end of town at 44 to 48 Emu Bay Road.
Their original designs and productions of an international quality, will reinforce Deloraine as the craft centre of Tasmania, and will attract visitors from the mainland and overseas.
Shandi is owned and operated by Shenn Woodward and Andi Mara who individually contribute their own individual creative talents to their astonishing products.
Shenn creates amazing apparel by combining a variety of fabrics and quality preloved materials. Each is individually designed and constructed, featuring rich textures and detailing.
She is the scissor queen, an echo of her past as an award winning hairdresser, and is fearless when cutting in to fabrics and clothing she transforms.
Andi produces one-of-a-kind knitted items using a variety of machines and his own original stitches and patterns. He is following a family Indonesian tradition, but at the same time is creating his own individual style and techniques.
His talent as a drummer, recognized by UNICEF, dovetails with his knit wear creations, and will be an added benefit to the local musicians.
They collectively focus on handmade, hand woven, multi-textile, garments exhibited through one off art pieces to wear, such as winter weight warm coats, jackets and ponchos etc. In an age of mass production, immediate satisfaction, and technology overload, much is lost in the way of true craftsmanship, Shenn and Andi refuse to answer that call.
When you visit , you’re shopping for handmade, custom, vintage, and Australian made clothing from Tasmania specifically. And to top it all off, the merchandise is dedicated to up cycling and the refurbishing of forgotten clothing, cutting down on unnecessary waste.
From tweeds, woollens, to hand weaved clothing with interesting and eye catching details, to vintage jackets you won’t find elsewhere.
Everything in the shop will be the only one of its kind, and once it’s yours, it is yours alone. The choice is simple, wear what everyone else is wearing, or dare to be unique, like Andi’s Tassie Tiger poncho
Fit in or stand out, the unique craft couple honours the Australian spirit of individuality, and this is being recognized in the exotic recycling and deconstruction embellishment work of Shenn going to New York, Philadelphia and now Arizona.
The community spirit is evident in the purchase of materials from Andi’s village in Indonesia which supports the village water supply and his own unique handicraft and weaving machines learnt through generations.
Visitors will be treated to the unique experience of watching these artists in action at their respective work stations in the shop.
