Earlier this week, Hobart-based Fullers Bookshop won the Leading Edge Australian Independent Bookstore of the Year Award at the Leading Edge Annual Conference held on the Gold Coast. The award recognised Fullers’:
Successful and committed book retailing
Excellence in in-store and online environment
Community engagement such as book clubs/author events
Operational expertise in areas such as buying, returns, and range management
Creative marketing campaigns
Engagement in Leading Edge Books and publisher marketing initiatives and group events
Contributing to the viability of the entire book trade
In the past, Fullers has been Tasmanian Independent Bookseller of the Year 2002–2014, and was Australian Bookseller of the Year in 2002. Fullers’ continued popularity and iconic status is evidence that books are still relevant and important to local and national culture. And the fact that a Tasmanian bookshop is performing at a world-class level is further evidence that Tasmanians are big readers and value the written word.
