The Mount Wellington Cable Car Company has openly called for their supporters to sabotage a
petition created by opponents of the cable car development on Mount Wellington.
The Mount Wellington Defenders group created a petition through change.org, calling on those
opposed to the cable car to make their views known to Carlton & United Breweries, who own the
Cascade Brewery.
The MWCCC want to use part of the brewery lands for their cable car terminus.
The petition started by MWD group encourages CUB to refuse, stating that the cable car proposal is
not in line with the pristine and iconic image of Mount Wellington displayed on Cascade Brewery’s
products.
MWCCC, however, posted on their Facebook page “Please join with these opponents and
sign this as many times as you like – just change your email address, name or browser to register 10
supporters each”.
Brendan Kays, of the MWD group, declared “They are openly advocating that their Facebook
supporters sign our petition with multiple false accounts in an attempt to de-legitimise it and
deceive CUB.
All this does is show how truly disreputable the company really is. How is it that this
company could be trusted by the State Government, and how do they intend to win over CUB and
the people of Hobart, when they are so clearly prepared to deceive in such an underhand way”.
