Karlin Love, Mim Postmus, Don Keddie & Karen Dennis
Sunday March 5th 2:30 pm
At Sawtooth ARI
Level 1, 160 Cimitiere St
Tickets at the door: $20/10 conc.
The program features energetic quartets, engaging duets, a bit of jazz, weird sounds, snake impressions, a Chordwainers cover, and pieces by Tasmanian composers: Simon Reade, Angela Polden, Claire Farrell, and a lot by Karlin (cuz it’s her party).
Launceston clarinettist and composer, Karlin Love decided to do this concert as something of a celebration of surviving to 60, and as a celebration of making new music in Tasmania. The program is a mix of works by Karlin, her influences, and pieces by other Tasmanian and emerging composers. In this concert the ‘influence’ pieces are by her US teacher Bill (William O.) Smith – Dave Brubeck’s clarinettist, who was also artist-in-residence here in 1996; and Alfred Uhl (Austria).
We think it’s a pretty fun mix and hope it inspires more local creative musical activity. And the chocolate pie will be good.
