Ross Hart MP says that growing inequality and reduction in disposable income is the real enemy of small business.

Mr Hart is concerned that the current government is continually devaluing the worth of Australian workers by exaggerating the cost of labour.

“Senator Abetz wants to see our lowest paid workers lose their Penalty Rates. Casual workers who might have two jobs or be putting themselves through university, reducing the money they can spend on groceries at the local shop or petrol at the service station”, said Mr Hart.

“Senator Abetz complains about Labor blocking changes to NewStart Allowance that would see our young jobseekers struggling without any income support for six months. He fails to recognise the cost of this measure to our economy – local businesses and landlords would be out of pocket as large numbers of their communities are without income for months on end.

Mr Hart said the Turnbull Government is funding its $50 billion tax giveaway to big business by cutting services and sacking public sector workers.

“We have already seen how this lack of human resources leads to a failure in service standards. One look at the ability of The Turnbull Government to deal with the recent robo-debt disaster leads me to wonder what services will be left for our local communities”.

Mr Hart said “that although we are seeing record profits by big business, wage growth remains stalled, a key indicator of growing economic inequality”.

“Turnbull’s trickle-down economics have failed everyone but the wealthy”, Mr Hart said.
