As RTI documents reveal:

SECRET GRAB FOR PUBLIC CASH FOR “HOME OF HOPE”

Meander Residents and Ratepayers Association President Ms Bodhi McSweeney today called on the Premier to rule out using public money to fund the so called Home of Hope at Meander Primary School after RTI documents reveal that Teen Challenge Tasmania is relying on $960,000 of public money to fit-out the facility.

“The Premier must rule out providing public money to facilitate this group’s evangelical agenda” said Ms McSweeney.

“They are already getting the School for a $1/year rent.”

“We have discovered through RTI that despite Teen Challenge claiming that they will be self-funded, nothing could be further from the truth”

“Teen Challenge’s development application makes no mention of their $960,000 grab for public cash, why have they concealed this fact from the public and the Council?”

“We are calling on the Premier at a time when health funding is being slashed across the state to rule out public money going into this private fundamentalist organization. Teen Challenge’s proposal has divided our community and it now appears that they appropriated our school by deceit.”

“Public health cuts have seen the loss of the Meander Valley Rural Primary Health Services Program, along with our full-time Social Worker, Mental Health Worker and Youth Health Worker. Surely the Premier will prioritise public health over Teen Challenge?”
