Treasurer’s hypocritical attack has no credibility
Three years on nothing has been done about crucial infrastructure
Treasurer Peter Gutwein’s concocted war with local government over water and sewerage has become a farce.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said Mr Gutwein has had three years to take Tasmania’s water and sewerage problems seriously.
“On the weekend he suggested the situation had reached crisis point and today he has announced his grand plan – to call a meeting,” Mr Bacon said.
“Mr Gutwein has no credibility in attacking local government for taking dividends from TasWater.
“This is the man who caused the energy crisis by ripping unsustainable dividends from Hydro Tasmania.
“This is the man who has pillaged $80 million from TT-Line to concoct a dodgy surplus.
“Mr Gutwein’s undignified and unhinged attack on local government is a smokescreen to mask his own inaction on water and sewerage.
“The problems confronting the industry are hardly new but for three years as Treasurer Mr Gutwein has failed to allocate a single dollar to fix them.
“The Liberals didn’t even lobby their Liberal colleagues for funding during the federal election.
“While Mr Gutwein rants and raves, Tasmanian communities are being let down.”
