The highly-anticipated feature film The Light between Oceans, which stars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and showcases the township of Stanley, will have a preview screening tonight at the State Cinema in North Hobart.
In 2014, the Government provided a $75,000 grant to assist the producers in converting the township into a 1920s fishing village for seven days of filming.
The production provided employment to over 20 local tradespeople and numerous extras, in addition to adding to the economy and helping local businesses in Tasmania’s North West.
The filmmakers, led by Hollywood director, Derek Cianfrance (A Place beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine), upon seeing photos of The Nut and the North West Tasmania’s unspoilt seascapes, insisted on bringing the production to Tasmania to shoot the village scenes.
The film builds on the recent successes of Tasmania’s screen industry and adds to our growing reputation as one of the world’s most desirable filming destinations.
The Tasmanian Government is a proud supporter of the screen industry in Tasmania and with the recent successful investments in The Kettering Incident and Rosehaven, and the upcoming release of Lion, the industry will continue to deliver substantial economic benefits to Tasmania well into the future.
