• Labor will work collaboratively when it comes to investing in infrastructure
• Liberals have dropped the ball on key projects
• Macquarie Point the classic example of the Government’s failures

Labor Leader Bryan Green and Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon have today met with Federal Shadow Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh to discuss the importance of state and federal collaboration on crucial regional development and infrastructure projects.

“Tasmania is being let down badly by the Liberals when it comes to regional development and infrastructure investment,” Mr Green said.

“You only have to look at the debacle around Macquarie Point for an example of the Liberals’ incompetence.

“In government, Labor provided $50 million to kick start the redevelopment project which has the potential to unlock a billion dollars’ worth of investment.

“But under the Liberals the project is in danger of complete collapse, with a bungled planning process and no progress in moving the sewerage works off the site.

“It is the same story in our regions, which were badly let down by the Liberals during the recent Federal election.

“It has been proven that Tasmania always does better when Labor Governments in Tasmania and Canberra work together.”

Shadow Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh said the Federal Government had neglected Tasmania when it comes budget priorities.

“The Liberals failed to address Tasmania’s infrastructure needs in the lead-up to the last election and paid the price by losing all three of their lower house seats,” Mr Leigh said.

“In contrast, Labor committed $75 million to water and sewerage upgrades in Launceston, $150 million for the redevelopment of UTAS and a $44 million tourism infrastructure fund.

“In government, Labor would work collaboratively to deliver when it comes to infrastructure, creating much needed employment across Tasmania.”
