Housing Choices Australia today announced the appointment of Saul Eslake as its newest Board member.

Saul is an accomplished and well known international and Australian leader and commentator in economics.

In addition to a high profile commercial career, he has held previous board directorships on the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, The National Housing Supply Council, as well as director role at the Grattan Institute. This experience along with his appointment as the inaugural Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Tasmania more than equips Saul to contribute to the organisation.

Established in 2008, Housing Choices Australia is a national, not-for-profit housing provider that creates safe, quality, affordable housing for people who are struggling to find a home in Australia’s challenging private rental market.

Housing Choices Australia currently operates in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia and provides a range of options including housing for people with disabilities which accounts for 30 per cent of dwellings up to a private rental housing business. The portfolio currently includes more than 3,800 properties spread across the three states.

Managing Director, Michael Lennon said that the appointment of Saul to the board bolsters the commercial focus of the organisation as it pursues strategic initiatives around the National Disability Insurance Scheme as well as the continuing commitment to Saul’s home State of Tasmania, and expansion into new geographical markets including New South Wales.

‘We are delighted that Saul has joined the board and look forward to his contribution and insights into how our organisation can maximise its opportunities to provide more affordable housing for some of the most disadvantaged members of our community.

Saul’s unique skill set and experience adds to our commercial focus for current and future initiatives’, Michael Lennon said.

On his appointment to the board, Saul said, ‘I am pleased to be joining the Housing Services Australia board and look forward to contributing to the ongoing success of the organisation.

‘I am excited to work towards creating more affordable housing in this current environment, and as always, I am passionate about supporting initiatives in Tasmania,’ Saul Eslake said.
