• Will Hodgman sums up his lack of leadership with one sentence
• The Premier can’t make a ruling on the Code of Conduct if he doesn’t know what happened
• Will Hodgman hasn’t even spoken to Ruth Forrest
Premier Will Hodgman must explain one of the most extraordinary quotes in recent political history.
Yesterday, when asked about his handling of the Rene Hidding bullying saga, and why he has not spoken to Ruth Forrest, the Premier gave the most ridiculous answer of the saga to date.
“It’s not my job to determine what did or did not happen, my job is to determine if there’s been a breach of the Ministerial Code of Conduct.” (Will Hodgman, ABC News, 13/10/2016)
Labor Member for Lyons Rebecca White said the Premier’s quote sums up his handling of the bullying scandal.
“It’s one of the most ridiculous statements from a Premier I’ve ever heard. It makes no sense,” Ms White said.
“It is Will Hodgman’s job to determine what happened because only then can he rule on whether there’s been a breach of the Code of Conduct.
“The Premier’s claim that it’s not his job to determine whether one of his Ministers has acted appallingly towards a woman sums up his hands-off approach to governing.
“Will Hodgman’s bitterly disappointing lack of leadership has allowed this saga to haunt his government for more than three weeks.
“Ruth Forrest has indicated that a more decisive response from the Premier could have prevented the situation we’re witnessing now.”
