Brian Mitchell the Federal Labor MP for Lyons says a scheduled increase in doctors’ fees is further proof that Labor was right to campaign on Medicare at the July 2 election.

“Tasmanians who are not bulk-billed will pay $78 to see the doctor from November 1 according to a new AMA fee schedule released this week,” Mr Mitchell said.

“The Turnbull Government’s freeze on Medicare rebates means patients will get less than half that fee back.

“Tasmanians will be out of pocket $41 each and every time they see their GP.

“This latest fee increase shows the Turnbull Government is not interested in addressing the growing cost of healthcare for Tasmanian families.

“This is a Government that wants to give $50 billion to corporations, spend $200 million on an opinion poll and hand $160,000 to the former MP for Lyons to attend functions, but refuses to help Tasmanian families.”

Mr Mitchell said Labor would lift the Medicare rebate freeze.
