This event will take place from 8 a.m till 7p.m and is part of a series of nation wide actions to continue to protest Australia’s inhumane treatment of people seeking asylum and to demand an end to offshore detention centres.
Initiated nationally by “Love Makes a Way” this Hobart action is being organized by concerned individuals Lili Calitz and Hannah Ekin with support from various refugee advocacy groups including Amnesty’s Refugee Right’s Group and the Tassie Nannas.
Spokesperson Lili Calitz stated “We want to send a message to the Government and Opposition that the abuse, assault and conditions detailed in the Nauru reports must end, and that they must take responsibility for their poor decisions and the culture of secrecy that has been created around immigration detention. Most of all, we want to see Australia’s offshore detention camps shut down immediately.”
