… “DO YOUR JOB!”

Ahead of debate on the Government’s marriage equality plebiscite bill, PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) has released a series of advertisements that urge senators to block the plebiscite and have a free vote instead.

The ads will promote the makeitlaw.com.au webform that allows Australians concerned about the plebiscite to email federal politicians.

PFLAG spokesperson, Shelley Argent, said,

“The advertisements are telling senators from all parties that they need to stop the Plebiscite from happening under all circumstances and have a Free Vote on the issue of marriage equality.

“LGBTIQ people and their families do not want a Plebiscite. We are seriously concerned about the increase of hateful language that is already emerging, divisiveness in the community and the stress it will cause to individuals, the same as it did in Ireland.

“We know from very recent surveys that the vast majority of Australian Voters are against a Plebiscite and prefer a Free Vote.

“The Free Vote is respectful, costs zero dollars and can be done at the next parliamentary sitting if the extreme right wing of the Coalition stops holding Mr Turnbull and the rest of the nation to ransom.

“LGBTIQ people and their loved ones have already waited too long to have their relationship recognised and celebrated in a manner that shows these relationships to be equal to their siblings, peers and work colleagues.

“As parents with LGBTIQ sons and daughters we say it is time for this government and the people of Australia to say “enough is enough”.

The ads will feature on social media and are targetted to voters in particular state: https://digitalpigeon.com/msg/n5gkcIVDEeapOQbtG5M1VQ/tVq6ubI7NBMdkRbB96EAtw?aid=JnxK0EJ6EeOmowYBQwrEJw

So far 30,000 individual Australians have sent 390,000 emails to their local MP and senators through makeitlaw.
