On a day when the Government has introduced the most significant reforms to the education system in a generation, it was amazing that Labor refused to even mention education in Parliament.
Labor has so far failed to release their own education policy and they are clearly trying to avoid talking about one of the most significant issues in the State at the moment.
Clearly, Labor is rattled by our successful education reforms.
When we proposed extending high schools to Year 11 and 12, they said the sky would fall. They have been completely embarrassed by their opposition to this reform. So much so that last year senior Labor MP, Craig Farrell, actually split from Labor to support our plan when he said: ““The people that have made this decision have said that it’s a good idea, so, yeah, it’s happening, so I will support it.”
Bizarrely, Labor also opposes our plan to upgrade schools, with Bryan Green saying last year that “…to just build classrooms and fancy things up actually doesn’t make a difference.” Mr Green should try telling that to the communities that are now benefiting from new facilities.
Now Labor is opposed to our plan to give parents more choice about when they send their children to school. Labor also opposes our commitment to invest over $100 million to implement the changes we announced today.
These changes will bring Tasmania into line with every other state in the country.
Once again, this proves Labor has no policies, no Plan and nothing but negativity.
