• Minister fails to acknowledge serious issues raised in explosive leaked report
• Auditor General should launch independent investigation
• Enormous pressure put on Hydro to deliver dividends
The Auditor General should conduct an independent assessment of Hydro Tasmania’s asset management plan.
“A damning leaked report from Hydro Tasmania states that the business cannot maintain more than a quarter of its generation assets under the current budget,” Labor Leader Bryan Green said.
“The Liberals have placed unrealistic dividend expectations on Hydro Tasmania which have compromised its ability to maintain energy security.
“Energy Minister Matthew Groom continues to bury his head in the sand over Hydro’s ability to manage its generation assets.
“The only way to maintain public confidence in the management of the energy system is to provide independent oversight.
“Labor believes the Auditor General should conduct an independent assessment of the issues raised in Hydro’s 10-year asset management plan.
“Matthew Groom has completely failed to acknowledge that his own decision have been enormous strain on Hydro Tasmania.
“He’s demanded dividends Hydro can’t afford, encouraged the business to sell of crucial assets and forced it to absorb the entire cost of the energy crisis.
“Now he’s dismissing legitimate concerns over the management of assets out of hand.
“This is a very serious issue and warrants a thorough, independent investigation by the Auditor General.”
