I recently spoke to the lovely Ella Hooper, ambassador for the Melbourne Music Bank Competition. Ella is a fairly regular visitor to Tassie most recently for the Festival of Voices and often, while she is here she will get a bit of shopping in at the Hill Street Grocer! Ella tells me she will visit again soon, this time to accompany her mum for her first visit to MONA.

The Melbourne Music Bank sends out an annual invitation to musicians in Victoria to take a chance at launching a musical career by submitting one of their original songs to the competition. In the highly competitive music industry, the award gives ‘young and indie artists’ as well as other musicians, a substantial boost to their chance for a career in music.

In her role as ambassador Ella reaffirms that the Melbourne Music Bank competition is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring Victorian musicians. Ella says the competition winner experiences an holistic approach to prepare them for success. They are supplied with ‘a tool kit’ which includes management and mentoring, plugging the song and publicity, help in creating their CDs, a photoshoot, some film clips to accompany their song, album artwork as well as some ‘artwork’ on themselves if they so wish, including tips on styling, image, how to present themselves in the way they wish and media training.

The winning artist may even find their song in a Bank of Melbourne TV ad and might also find themselves touring!

With this competition Cornucopia on offer the prize is highly valued and Ella says this year could see the team at Melbourne music band discover ‘a huge hit on their hands’.

The Melbourne Music Bank Competition is a wonderful opportunity for artists to showcase their music and closer to home, last year’s winner was former Tassie girl Heloise.
