Who: Robin Banks, Tim Sanderson, Rodney Croome, Susan Ditter
A rally to mark the 12th anniversary of the Howard Government’s ban on same-sex marriages will be held on Parliament Laws Hobart tomorrow, Saturday August 13th, at 11am.
The rally will hear the case against a plebiscite from speakers including Equal Opportunity Commissioner, Robin Banks, psychologist, Tim Sanderson, LGBTI rights advocate, Rodney Croome, and Susan Ditter, executive director of LGBTI support service, Working It Out.
Rally-goers will also enjoy a demonstration of how easy it is for politicians to pass marriage equality without the need for a plebiscite.
On August 13th 2004 Federal Parliament passed a Howard Government amendment to the Marriage Act making it clear that same-sex couples cannot marry under Australian law and same-sex marriages from overseas would not be recognised.
