Heavy rain and floodwaters in the north east has led to a pipe bridge which carries the main water supply line to the town of Derby being washed away and the pipe severed.
The break in the pipe has resulted in the TasWater supply to customers in the town being cut off.
TasWater crews are assessing the damage and will carry out emergency repairs tomorrow.
In the interim, a water tanker will be available in Derby Park with an operator available to supply householders with emergency drinking water supplies.
The tanker should be set up around seven o’clock this evening.
The heavy rain has impacted several water supplies across the state with several towns experiencing increased turbidity leading to temporary boil water advisories being put in place by the Department of Health and Human Services for Westerway, Fentonbury, National Park, Colebrook and customers connected to the Rocky Creek water system in the Huon Valley.
Flooding has affected some sewerage treatment facilities and pump stations but procedures are in place to contain the impact.
For details on boil water procedures or for more information customers are advised to go to www.Taswater.com.au or call 13 6992.
