Tasmania’s first community solar project was launched today (Thurs) by Andrew Wilkie MP who kicked off the innovative crowd funding campaign with a $500 personal donation to Tastex’ Solar Project.
The Independent Member for Denison urged Tasmanians and anyone interested in reducing our reliance on fossil fuels to dig deep for the Tastex Solar Project which he said was a vital transition and one that he hopes will be replicated across the state.
“I have been the member for Denison for six years and in that time I have witnessed Tastex diversify and grow in order to stay ahead of the game in a challenging economic environment,” said Mr Wilkie.
“Implementing solar will save $7000 off the operating costs annually and ensure that Tastex continues to craft quality products using Australian wool and provide meaningful employment for Tasmanians with disabilities.”
Tastex CEO Vicki Hawker described the campaign as the next step to ensuring Tastex will continue to thrive and grow for another 45 years.
“Tastex is more than a manufacturing operation, our team is like a family, we support Tastex through the challenges the business faces and we are always there for each other,” said Ms Hawker.
“We will be doing everything we can to share our fundraising campaign with friends and family through social media and directing people to our website to get involved and we hope others will do the same.”
