HOBART, 31 MAY 2016 — A group of Tasmanian filmmakers have today announced the formation of the Tasmanian Filmmakers Alliance, also known as TaFA.
Run by a Council of seven, the organisation has more than 100 members to date. Anyone who identifies as a Tasmanian filmmaker is encouraged to join.
The group’s focus is on individual, independent filmmakers; including producers, directors, screenwriters, cast and crew. It will also represent emerging and aspiring filmmakers and those involved in the industry in an educational or exhibition capacity.
TaFA believes that the Tasmanian film industry has economic and cultural value to the state and that government support is necessary for this industry to thrive.
Core to TaFA’s formation is the conviction that, while support for inbound production is valuable, prioritising Tasmanian filmmakers is crucial to developing a strong local industry and screen culture.
Tasmanian Filmmakers Alliance (TaFA) will hold events for current and prospective members in Hobart and Launceston this month. These meet-ups will introduce TaFA and its Council and also allow for an informal networking opportunity for filmmakers.
