Ten year old Glen Huon girl Gabby La Palma, is in for a wonderful surprise this Sunday, when Hobart Make-A-Wish volunteers deliver the news that her wish for a family holiday to the Gold Coast is going to come true.
Gabby, diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, decided some time ago that her ultimate wish would be to travel to Queensland, ride a horse on the beach and receive some special VIP treatment so she could “jump the queues at the theme parks”.
At a special event at the HIA HomeFEST this weekend in Hobart, Gabby will be told that she and her family will soon be heading off on the trip of a lifetime to the sunny Gold Coast.
Make-A-Wish has been the charity partner of the HIA HomeFEST for the past few years.
Make-A-Wish Hobart branch Vice President, Amanda Street, said the live wish announcement will allow the community to share that special moment when Gabby discovers her one cherished wish is going to come true.
“It will be a lovely moment for everyone involved, and we can’t wait to see the smile on Gabby’s face when she gets the good news,” she said.
“We are so grateful for the ongoing support of organisations such as HIA and also that of many of the regular stall holders at HomeFEST. It is a great community event and our volunteers love getting involved in it”.
Make-A-Wish will be running a BBQ and providing kids craft and face painting in the kids’ corner over the two days. There will also be a silent auction with items donated from stallholders.
The big announcement will be made on Saturday at 1pm in the forecourt of the Princes Wharf Shed.
As an organisation funded solely on donations, Make-A-Wish relies on the generosity of the community to make wishes come true. For more information, or make a donation to Make-A-Wish, please visit www.makeawish.org.au or phone 1800 032 260.
