The Tasmanian Greens are pleased to announce that Hobart Alderman Anna Reynolds has been endorsed as a Senate candidate for the upcoming federal election.

Alderman Reynolds will be second on the party’s ticket behind Senator Nick McKim.

Party Convenor Kay McFarlane said Alderman Reynolds has an impressive CV from local government and as a campaigner and activist in a wide range of fields at a local, national and international level.
“Alderman Reynolds is an outstanding candidate with an excellent vision for Tasmania’s future,” Ms McFarlane said.

“Alongside Senator McKim and our House of Representatives candidates, she will present a real alternative to the people of Tasmania.”

Before being elected to Council, Alderman Reynolds established a community legal centre in North Queensland, and in 1998 set up Australia’s first climate change community organisation, the Climate Action Network Australia.

She worked for WWF International on climate change campaigns and is currently the CEO of the Multicultural Council of Tasmania.

Alderman Reynolds said: “The Greens are the only credible voice in Australian politics on issues that matter to me – things like tackling climate change and having a humane approach to immigration policy.”

“Tasmanians need bold voices in our federal parliament. I would be honoured to join Nick and Peter and the rest of the Greens team if the voting community is keen to see me there.”

Senator McKim said he looked forward to joining Alderman Reynolds on the campaign trail.

“Alderman Reynolds will be a fantastic voice in a Greens team that has the courage to stand up for a more compassionate approach to refugees, for real solutions to global warming and for a better, smarter future for Tasmania.”

The party will be making announcements about other candidates shortly.
