Danish founder of ‘Cycling Without Age’ Dorthe Pedersen and her travel partner Nicholas are visiting Tasmania for the first time to promote their international rickshaw initiative.
The rickshaw initiative is about promoting healthy, inclusive positive ageing, where volunteers take older members of the community out in a rickshaw. Dorthe is a civil society consultant in Copenhagen and initially started with just five rickshaws and a handful of volunteers. The initiative has now spread world-wide and is coming to Tasmania for the first time as a pilot.
Members of Dementia Friendly Snug and Bike Tas, and anyone else who is willing to donate their time and leg power, will be meeting at Dru Point, Margate this Saturday to take clients from Manor Gardens and the residents of Snug Village Nursing Home out for a spin.
Dementia Friendly Snug and Bike Tas have teamed up with the Dutch Australia Society who is hosting a St Nicholas Day Event at Dru Point on the same day, which is the European day of St Nicholas. A major part of the event will be the much heralded annual arrival of Sinterklaas (St Nicholas) and his cohort Black Pete. They will sail in with gifts and lollies for the children.
Event Details: 11am to 2pm, Saturday 5 December, Dru Point, Margate.
