Greg Irons, the multi-award winning owner-operator of Tasmanian tourism and wildlife icon Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary today called for greater action on Climate Change, a week out from the Paris Climate talks.

Mr Irons will speak at the People’s Climate March on the 29th November, Tasmania’s contribution to global rallies and demonstrations that coincide with the Paris climate talks.

‘While people desperately need global action on climate change to secure a safe, healthy and sustainable future, the world’s wildlife also need our leaders to act,’ said Mr Irons.

‘Many species have long had pressure placed on them through habitat destruction, poaching, predation from feral species and disease. Now climate change is affecting the environments they live in, increasing pressure and potentially pushing them over the brink.

At the rally, Greg will join farmer and climate activist Matthew Pitt; Pano Russo Hobart Coordinator for the Australian Youth Climate Coalition; Jack Redpath from Fossil Free UTAS; Retired Uniting Church Minister John McRae; Zac Romagnoli-Townsend, State Coordinator for SEED, and Greg Cooper Secretary of the United Fire Fighters Union of Tasmania.

As all community demonstrations in Paris have been cancelled due to the recently declared State of Emergency, focus turns to other countries and the collective call on World leaders for climate action.

‘With the Paris rallies cancelled and no-one on the streets in Paris call for action, it’s more important than ever that we turn out in massive numbers in cities around Australia. Tassie has to do its bit.

‘As world leaders meet to make decisions on how much they are willing to cut pollution, they won’t hear the voice of the people in the surrounding streets, but we can make sure they hear us.

‘Together, let’s rally for our planet, for our shared humanity and everything we love, including the wildlife that needs or help.
