Celebrat Christmas in style with Allegri Ensemble at our final program for 2015, Sing Noël! directed by Andrew Bainbridge. Enjoy a concert of beautiful motets and carols for Christmas interspersed with seasonal readings from Susan Williams.

The program includes motets by Victoria, Parsons and Palestrina and carols by Kenneth Leighton, Benjamin Britten and Bob Chilcott. Tasmanian composer Peter Sculthorpe, who died earlier this year, will be represented in his carol “The Birthday of thy King”, commissioned for King’s College, Cambridge in 1988. The King’s College connection is completed in our tribute to Sir David Willcocks, who also died earlier this year, and the program contains several of his best-loved carol arrangements, including some for audience participation.

The concert is on Saturday 19th December at 8:00 pm 2015 at St Mary’s Cathedral, 164 Harrington St, Hobart. Tickets are $35 adult/$26 concession from CENTERTAINMENT or at the door from 7:15 pm.

Allegri Ensemble is a tightly-knit, hand-picked group of Hobart’s finest choral singers drawn from many local choirs, some of whom are soloists in their own right. The choir was established in 2010 by Andrew Bainbridge in conjunction with Jane Edwards and Edward Paling, to perform Handel’s ‘Messiah’ which it did to critical acclaim and packed houses. Specialising in a cappella music (singing without instruments), it continues to go from strength to strength, presenting an annual concert season in Hobart.
