The former Labor Green Government ripped TasTAFE to pieces and caused its near demise with the introduction of its disastrous Tasmania Tomorrow plan.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is creating a TasTAFE that is a more effective and competitive organisation.
Every year we invest more than $100 million in vocational education and training. TasTAFE gets a guaranteed 70 per cent of our total VET spend.
This year, the number of Tasmanians enrolled in Deed Funded Training, which is funded by the guaranteed 70 per cent Government spend, has increased by more than six per cent.
More of those enrolments have been in Endorsed Skills Sets, which allow students to learn exactly what they need in a more time effective way.
This means that more Tasmanians have the skills they need to get the job they want.
With regard to ‘other training’, this shows that taxpayers and students get the very best value for money and does not in any way reflect a decline in Tasmanian training activity.
This includes the portion of VET funding that is allocated following a competitive tender process, and is awarded to training providers who meet high standards.
And in relation to apprentices and trainees in particular in 2015, 100 per cent of our local organisations that have applied for funding have received funding.
We are committed to creating a job ready generation and more jobs. That’s why we are investing more than $100 million in vocational education and training, $1.44 billion in education and $315 million in a jobs package.
