Today’s ABS retail figures show that retail turnover is in uncharted territory, breaking last month’s record high.

At $479.8 million in September, retail turnover has grown 4.5 per cent under the Hodgman Liberal Government.

Tasmania’s retail spending is also a significant factor in why business confidence is the highest in the nation. 7,200 jobs have been created since the election, the economy is growing, visitors are pouring in, there’s a construction boom underway and the tills are ringing as a result.

However, we know there is still a lot of work to do. The best way to help the retail sector is to create jobs and make sure more Tasmanians have money in their pocket. That’s why this year’s Budget included a $315 million jobs package and a $1.8 billion infrastructure package.

We are also rolling out programs as part of our long-term Plan that will directly help the retail sector, like our Buy Local campaign and our Local Benefits Test that is helping more Tasmanian businesses win Government tenders.
