Iconic Australian artist and former Australian of the Year, Lee Kernaghan has added another accolade to his long and well respected music career; presented last night with the 2015 ARIA Award for Outstanding Achievement.

The award for Outstanding Achievement comes hot on the heels of Lee’s recent 8 x Golden Guitar nominations for SPIRIT OF THE ANZACS, the highest selling Australian album year to date across all genres. It also sees Lee join an elite group of recipients, including John Farnham (1988), INXS (1989), Slim Dusty (2000) and Keith Urban (2001.)

Despite numerous #1 ARIA Country Albums, SPIRIT OF THE ANZACS is Lee’s first #1 ARIA main album chart (All Genres) and is the only Australian album to achieve Platinum accreditation in 2015- a true triumph worth celebrating!

Lee is thrilled that this album has resonated so strongly with the Australian public, saying “Writing and recording these songs that have been inspired by the letters and true stories from servicemen and women is the most humbling yet inspirational experience of my career.”

Presenter of the award and Director of the Australian War Memorial, Dr Brendan Nelson said of the release, “Every nation has its story. This is ours. From the bloody Gallipoli landing to the dusty deserts of Afghanistan, precious war letters held at the Australian War Memorial have inspired this moving tribute from one of Australia’s great storytellers, Lee Kernaghan.”

Lee Kernaghan is one of Australia’s most prolific country music artists. He has previously earned 3x ARIA Awards for Best Country Album, 33x Golden Guitars, and has achieved 33 #1 hits on the Australian Country Singles Chart.
