Nineteen new officers joined the ranks of Tasmania Police today, marking another step forward in delivering the Hodgman Liberal Government’s commitment to recruit an additional 113 police.

I was pleased to serve as the reviewing officer at this morning’s official graduation ceremony at the Tasmania Policy Academy at Rokeby.

For the second course in a row, both the Dux and Runner-Up Dux were awarded to women, demonstrating that policing today is genuinely a career open to both men and women.

The new constables, who, as in previous courses, come from a diverse range of backgrounds, will soon be seen on the frontline, being posted at stations in Burnie, Devonport, Launceston and Hobart.

Their graduation today shows that the Liberal Government is making strong progress in rebuilding Tasmania Police after the previous Labor-Green government cut more than 100 officers.

We are committed to building a safer Tasmania, and we congratulate these new officers and wish them well in their careers.
