Glenorchy City Council general manager’s salary surges 4

GLENORCHY City Council general manager Peter Brooks has had a boost in his total salary package of between $40,000 and $60,000.

The council’s new annual report shows Mr Brooks’ total salary package — which includes his base salary, superannuation, use of a vehicle and any other payments — has risen from between $200,000 and $250,000 in the 2013-14 financial year to between $290,000 and $309,999 during the last financial year.

The Mercury had previously sought the details about pay rises and performance criteria through right to information but this had been refused following a vote by elected members.

Contacted by the Mercury following the release of the annual report, the council — which is the subject of a government-sanctioned board of inquiry to look at governance issues and internal divisions — referred the matter to Mayor Kristie Johnston, saying she was the official spokesperson.

However, in a further pointer to tensions within the council, Ald Johnston immediately referred the matter back to Mr Brooks
