It’s disappointing that Labor, the Greens and some Legislative Council members feel that people who have been found guilty of a crime shouldn’t make a contribution to the significant cost of running the criminal justice system.
This was an election commitment of the Liberal Government and it has been on the table and discussed with the community since well before the election.
We know that the overwhelming majority of Tasmanians supported this legislation and they will be mystified at the opposition to convicted criminals making a contribution to the costs of running our criminal justice system.
