The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association has welcomed the news that the State’s frontline biosecurity defences will be boosted with the addition of three new detector dog teams.

“The TFGA are very supportive of the measures undertaken by the State Government to enhance biosecurity within Tasmania,’’ TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said.

“The State’s biosecurity mechanisms need to grow in line with our burgeoning agricultural sector. The Government’s additional financial resourcing will help protect Tasmania’s relative disease-free status and premium produce.

“We continue to closely work with Government to ensure that Biosecurity Tasmania remains at the forefront of our defences against unwanted incursions of pests, diseases and weeds.

“Biosecurity and product integrity standards are everyone’s responsibility in Tasmania – our brand, and our economic future depend on it.”
