Shadow Primary Industries Minister David Llewellyn said biosecurity workers have the full support of Labor when it comes to industrial action.
“It’s time the Liberal Government started listening to biosecurity staff who are under unprecedented pressure,” Mr Llewellyn said.
“More is being asked of biosecurity officers than ever before and the Government is offering them no help.
“A ban on overtime might finally make the Liberals realise that the current resourcing and staffing arrangements are not sustainable.
“We are talking about the people who work hard to protect Tasmania’s brand and pest-free status and this government is taking them for granted.
“Just last month we had a situation where Norwegian trout was stocked on Tasmanian supermarket shelves but the Government still won’t acknowledge there’s a crisis.
“This government’s complacency when it comes to biosecurity could devastate critical sectors of our economy.”
