The Hodgman Liberal Government is working to grow Tasmania’s ICT sector and build a connected and empowered economy to drive economic growth and create jobs.
Today, I can announce the Government has taken another step towards delivering on its commitment to move whole-of-government data to the Tasmanian Cloud.
The Tasmanian Cloud will be an on-island cloud service, using services provided by multiple suppliers, to securely support key public sector data and ICT services.
A request for tender is already underway for data centre services and a second request for tender, for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) will be called in the near future.
Together, these two processes will establish the new panel arrangements for Tasmanian Cloud services.
The Tasmanian Cloud Policy sends clear market signals from the Government on its intended direction, enabling the local ICT industry to invest in the range of skills and services that government requires.
By the end of 2018, the Tasmanian Government will have located most of its information and services in the Tasmanian Cloud and closed their existing data centres.
The Government has ensured the ICT industry has been consulted and informed at every step of the process so we get the best possible result for Tasmanians accessing public services as well as opportunities for local ICT businesses.
