The Governor has received notice that the Tasmanian Electoral Commissioner, Mr Julian Type, wishes to retire.
The Governor has accepted Mr Type’s resignation, and Mr Type will retire from office at close of business, 10 February 2016.
Appointed as Commissioner in April 2011, Mr Type’s contribution to the Tasmanian Electoral Commission has been significant.
Prior to his role as Commissioner, Mr Type held positions with the Australian Electoral Commission, and obtained international experience as senior electoral advisor with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Nepal, and deputy chairperson of the Joint Electoral Management body in Afghanistan.
A recruitment process in accordance with the Electoral Act 2004 will be undertaken prior to the appointment of a new Electoral Commissioner.
This process will commence with an advertisement inviting applications for the position to be placed in the Australian and the three main Tasmanian newspapers tomorrow, Saturday 17 October.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Type for his dedicated public service and wish him all the best in his retirement.
Vanessa Goodwin, Minister for Justice
