State Growth Minister Matthew Groom has blatantly misled Parliament and should resign.

Labor Leader Bryan Green asked Mr Groom this morning whether the Government was considering selling or giving away TasTAFE’s Campbell Street premises.

Mr Groom said: “There is no specific proposal that this Government is progressing for the transfer of the TasTAFE building.”

Just a few hours later he was forced to table an MOU that he signed on September 1 which contemplates that exact proposal.

“Matthew Groom was asked a very straight forward question this morning and he told a blatant lie,” Mr Green said.

“Despite his signature being on a MOU about the transfer of TAFE, he denied a proposal was being considered.

“Not only has a proposal been considered, the Minister himself signed off on it.

“Deliberately misleading Parliament is a gravely serious matter. Elected members are expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty and integrity.

“Matthew Groom has shown that he cannot be trusted and he must resign.

“If he doesn’t, the Premier must uphold the standards expected of MPs and sack him.”
