Despite making huge promises before and after the election, the Liberal Government is failing to have a positive influence on Tasmania’s health system.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said the Government’s rhetoric does not match its results.
“Michael Ferguson said he was the best friend health has ever had but the stats speak for themselves,” Mr Green said.
“Tasmanians are waiting longer for elective surgery procedures under a Liberal Government.
“Waiting list numbers at the Royal Hobart Hospital have blown out by more than 50 per cent.
“After more than 18 months in power, the Liberals are failing to have a positive influence on elective surgery outcomes.
“Last year money set aside for elective surgery couldn’t actually be spent because of staffing constraints.
“Almost every day we hear an example of how much stress our hospitals system is under.
“Budget cuts have taken a huge toll.
“And at the same time as the Government is failing to adequately fund the acute end of the health system, it’s also walking away from preventative health commitments.
“Scrapping a committee looking at preventative health initiatives is short-sighted in the extreme.”
