The Hodgman Liberal Government’s policies are the most popular of any state government in Australia.
We are proudly pro-business. We want the world to know that Tasmania is open for business and it’s clear that our long-term Plan is working.
Today’s Sensis Business Index shows that businesses believe in our plan to create jobs and grow the economy. It also shows that as a result of the Government’s long-term Plan businesses are expecting sales and profitability to increase further in coming months.
Support for the Government among small and medium businesses grew substantially from +7 to +26 since the last Index, easily making the Hodgman Liberal Government the most popular government in the country amongst businesses.
Sensis puts this down to one main reason:
“The primary factor behind the appeal of the Tasmanian Government is that it is seen as supportive and interested in small business, followed by getting the economy going.”
Tasmania is only one of two jurisdictions where expectations for the economy in a year’s time are positive. Tasmania is also at the second in the country when it comes to business sales and profitability expectations.
Today’s result is the latest in a string of indicators showing that we are heading in the right direction. Tasmania leads the country in terms of business confidence according to NAB, retail trade is at record highs, 7,200 jobs have been created since the election and the tourism boom is contributing to massive investment right around the State.
While this is good news, there is still a lot more work to do. The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to growing the economy and creating jobs. That’s why we announced a $315 million jobs package and a $1.8 billion infrastructure plan in the 2015-16 Budget.
